Ghost Controls Gate Motor Replacement: The Anaheim Owner’s Guide

We replace Ghost Controls gate motors across Anaheim regularly, and in most cases we can do the job in a single visit. The installed cost typically runs between $320 and $650 depending on which Ghost Controls model is in the ground and whether we’re swapping just the motor head or the complete swing assembly. If your gate stopped mid-swing or has started creeping, grinding, or losing its limits, you’re likely looking at a failed motor and we can have a replacement matched to your exact model with a written price before any work begins.

Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: the gate worked fine for years, then one morning it opened halfway and sat there. Or it started beeping and refusing to move. Or the remote triggers the board and you hear a click but nothing turns. Anaheim’s heat and the fine dust that drifts through neighborhoods like Anaheim Hills, West Anaheim, and the Colony make Ghost Controls motors work harder than they should, and when the gear train finally gives out, the failure rarely announces itself politely.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls splits their lineup into a few lines that matter for replacement. The AXP series and earlier DP2 series are the older workhorses, and those are the ones we most often find dead in Anaheim driveways after ten or twelve years of service. The TDS series and the ASU series are newer, and the Ghost Pro line is their current residential offering. The compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know is that Ghost Controls changed their mounting bolt pattern between the DP2 and the TDS generations, so a motor from one series does not drop onto the bracket from another without an adapter plate, and sometimes not even then. If the label on your motor is sun-bleached and unreadable, we can identify the model by measuring the bolt spacing and the output shaft length, and we stock the OEM replacement parts for every series plus quality aftermarket equivalents where Ghost Controls no longer manufactures the original. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls, which means we match parts by what actually fits your gate, not by whatever the manufacturer happens to still list.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing

  • The gate stalls halfway and the control board restarts. This is the motor drawing excessive current as its internal gears bind from stripped teeth or dried-out grease. The board trips its thermal protection and resets, which is why the gate moves again after ten minutes of cooling.
  • You hear a grinding or clicking from the operator housing while the gate barely moves. The worm gear inside the Ghost Controls motor has shredded one or more teeth. Anaheim’s temperature swings make the nylon pressure gear brittle faster than in milder climates.
  • The gate drifts open or closed on its own after reaching full travel. The motor’s internal brake or limit assembly has worn out, so the gate no longer holds position without the chain or arm keeping it in place.
  • The motor runs but the gate does not move at all. The output drive coupler between the motor shaft and the arm or chain has snapped. This is common on older AXP units where that coupler is plastic and has spent a decade in direct sun.
  • Intermittent operation that worsens when it’s hot outside. Motor windings degrade over time, and at 95 degrees in Anaheim the insulation resistance drops enough to trigger the board’s overload circuit. The problem disappears at night and returns the next afternoon.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Installed Ghost Controls motor replacement in Anaheim runs between $320 and $650 for the majority of residential setups. The range breaks down like this:

  • Motor head replacement alone (OEM or equivalent): $320-$450 installed
  • Motor plus drive arm or chain assembly: $450-$550 installed
  • Complete swing operator package when the bracket and limit hardware are also shot: $550-$650 installed

Every quote includes the part matched to your Ghost Controls model, removal of the failed unit, installation and calibration of the limits and force settings, and a full test cycle with your existing remotes and keypad. The price you approve is the price you pay, settled before we turn a single bolt. We stock the common Ghost Controls replacement motors on our trucks so there’s no second trip, and if we need to order an uncommon part, we tell you that before quoting. The work itself, including the part and the labor, carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing, no paperwork on your end and no arguing if something isn’t right.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a couple of things worth checking before you pick up the phone. Confirm the breaker for the gate is on, and check whether the control board shows a blinking fault light when you press the remote. If the antenna wire has come loose or a sensor has drifted out of alignment, that’s a five-minute fix you can sometimes do yourself by reseating connectors. Beyond that, we do not recommend opening the Ghost Controls operator housing yourself. These motors contain a capacitor that holds charge after power is disconnected, and the internal gears run under spring tension that can release against your hand if the cover comes off wrong. We’ve had to repair a few DIY attempts in Anaheim where a homeowner went in with a screwdriver and came out with a stripped limit switch and a worse problem than they started with. If the motor is grinding, stalled, or dead, call us at (424) 395-3381 and we’ll come out, match the part, and have it turning again in the same visit.
