To identify your part before you call, check the metal ID plate on the operator arm or the control box. The model name and the six-digit serial number are stamped there. If the plate is gone, measure the bracket’s bolt spacing center-to-center in millimeters and note whether the gate is steel or aluminum, because that changes the weld rod we bring.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags at the latch end and drags on the driveway. This usually means a hinge weld has stretched or cracked. The BFT opener keeps pushing the gate through its arc, but the frame is no longer carrying the weight the way it was designed to, and the hinge is slowly tearing.
• The gate shudders or jumps mid-travel. When a bracket loosens or a weld breaks at the operator mount, the motor’s force is applied at a bad angle. The jumping is the opener fighting a pivot point that’s shifting under load.
• You can see daylight through a crack in the gate frame or a bracket. A visible seam that opens when the gate moves is a fatigue crack. In Anaheim’s heat and dry air, steel expands and contracts daily, and a small crack becomes a full break faster than most owners expect.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely diagnose the symptom without touching a tool. Watch where the gate scrapes. Look for visible cracks at the hinge plates and operator bracket with the gate in the closed position. Take a photo and measure the bolt spacing if you want to be ahead of the conversation when you call.

What you should not do is attempt the weld repair yourself. A driveway gate is a heavy, tensioned assembly, and the welds carry significant load every time the opener cycles. A cold weld or an improper joint on a gate hinge can fail without warning, and a BFT opener has enough torque to push a failed gate onto a car, a child, or a person standing in its path. This is not a job for a flux-core hobby welder. It requires proper penetration, correct rod selection for the steel thickness, and an understanding of how the gate’s load transfers through the hinge geometry.
