FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Anaheim Owner’s Guide
FAAC welding and fabrication in Anaheim typically runs $340 to $900 installed, depending on what’s broken and how much metal needs to be reworked. Most owners discover the problem the same way: the gate starts dragging on one corner, a hinge tears loose from the post, or a weld cracks where the opener arm attaches to the gate frame. We stock FAAC-compatible brackets, hinge plates, and weld-in reinforcement kits on the truck, and we can usually have the gate closing square again the same day we look at it. Call (424) 395-3381 and a live person will answer.
The parts don’t fail quietly. You’ll hear a groan at the hinge, see rust staining running down from a mount plate, or watch the gate lean a half-inch further out of plumb every month until the opener is fighting metal instead of moving it. By the time most Anaheim homeowners call, the gate has been telling them something’s wrong for six months. We’ll find the crack, cut it back to clean steel, and weld it so the next owner inherits the repair, not the problem.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
Every FAAC opener we weld and fabricate for falls into one of three families: the 400 series (swing gates), the 390 and 412 (light-to-medium-duty operators), and the 844 and C-series (heavy slide and commercial-style units). The welding needs differ by series. The 400-series arms mount to a plate that was often welded thin at the factory; after a decade of Anaheim’s morning marine layer and afternoon heat cycling, that plate is the first piece we replace. The 844 chain-driven slide units usually need a new chain guide bracket fabricated because the original was stamped too light for a gate this heavy.
The part number matters less than the measurement. Before we quote anything, we check the gate leaf width and weight, measure the distance between the opener mounts, and match the bracket to the geometry FAAC specified for that model. Some aftermarket brackets are sold as “universal fit” and they aren’t. A universal bracket on a FAAC 400 will sit the arm two degrees off its intended swing arc, and the opener will bind against the post every time it cycles. We use genuine FAAC weld plates or machine-matched equivalents, never anything we’d have to persuade to fit. Ironworks Gate Co. is an independent gate service company, not affiliated with FAAC, which means we match the part honestly instead of defending a catalog number.
Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags and scrapes the driveway on one side. The hang-side hinge plate has begun tearing away from the post or the gate frame. Anaheim’s clay-heavy soil shifts with winter rain, and a post that moves even a quarter-inch puts the hinge weld under constant peel stress.
- A sharp crack or pop when the gate opens. A weld has failed at the opener mount and the arm is now levering against the remaining bead. Every cycle widens the crack.
- Rust staining below a hinge or mount. Water gets behind the plate, the plate rusts from the inside out, and the bleed tells you where the metal is thinning before the weld lets go. Coastal-adjacent Anaheim humidity makes this show up faster than inland owners expect.
- The opener runs but the gate moves slower than it used to. The gate has twisted a few degrees out of plane, so the motor is dragging the leaf against the hinges rather than swinging it freely. The hinge weld is the brake that never releases.
- The gate stops midway and reverses intermittently. A cracked mount flexes just enough to trip the FAAC’s built-in obstruction detection, which reads the resistance as an obstacle. The opener isn’t failing; the metal underneath it is.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Anaheim, plan on these installed ranges for FAAC-related welding and fabrication work:
- Single hinge plate or bracket rework: $340-$480
- Opener arm mount plate replacement (cut out old, weld in new, repaint): $420-$600
- Both hinge plates plus gate realignment: $550-$750
- Full reinforcement package on an older gate (hinges, opener mounts, bottom rail stiffener): $750-$900
The range depends on how much rust we have to cut back before welding, how thick the remaining steel is, and whether the gate needs to come off its hinges to be squared on the ground. Every quote is settled before we start. You’ll know the number, agree to the number, and that’s the number on the bill. The work includes the weld itself, grinding and paint match, and realignment of the gate on its posts. It’s covered by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise: if it isn’t right, we come back and fix it, no paperwork, no arguing. We also knock $50 off any repair over $250, and if you’ve got another company’s written estimate, we’ll give you a free second opinion on it.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the obvious: wiggle the gate by hand, look for daylight through the welds, and note where the rust is running. What you shouldn’t do is fire up a welder and try to patch a cracked gate mount yourself. A gate that shifts while you’re working on it can pin you against a post, and a weld that hasn’t penetrated the base metal will look fine for three months and then fail catastrophically while the opener is mid-cycle. We’ve cut enough “weekend patch” welds out of Anaheim gates to know the pattern.
There’s also the electrical side. The FAAC unit doesn’t know the difference between a jammed gate and a broken weld; it just keeps applying force until the obstruction sensor trips or something gives. If the weld gives first, the gate becomes a falling object. That’s not a risk worth taking over a few hundred dollars in labor. Call (424) 395-3381 and we’ll be there when we say. Background-checked, uniformed technicians, the same ones Victor Salinas trains, working on your gate the way they’d work on their own mother’s.
FAQs
Properly prepped, welded, and painted mounts last 15 to 20 years in Anaheim’s climate, which is about twice what factory welds typically survive. The original welds on older FAAC installations were often too cold, meaning they never fully fused with the base metal. Our repairs outlast the original because we burn hotter, clean the joint back to bright steel, and seal the work with rust-inhibiting paint the same afternoon.
Sometimes. If the crack is fresh and the surrounding steel is thick enough, we can grind it out and weld it properly. If the plate has thinned, rusted through, or already been patched once, we replace it with new steel cut and drilled to match the FAAC mount pattern. We’ll show you the difference and quote both options before we start. Call (424) 395-3381 and we’ll take a look.
Most hinge plate and opener mount repairs are done in a single visit, usually three to four hours including paint and realignment. If the gate has to come off its hinges for the repair, same day, just a longer visit. We tell you the time window before we schedule.
Yes. We carry FAAC-compatible plates and brackets for the 400 series, 390, 412, and the 844 slide units, plus the steel stock to fabricate what isn’t a stock item. We also keep parts on hand for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls for the times a customer has more than one opener brand on the property.
If your gate groans on the way up, is leaning, or has a crack where the opener arm bolts on, that problem will not fix itself, and the opener is paying for it every day. Victor Salinas grew up in Anaheim’s Wakefield neighborhood, not far from Brookhurst Park, and he’s been cutting the rot out of local gates and welding them back stronger for over two decades. We fix it right the first time, or we come back. That’s always been the deal.
